At Neadvance, we have been implementing computer vision, artificial intelligence, and robot guidance to factory shop floors, roads, and hospitals for the past 15 years. With this commutative knowledge, we’ve built several accelerators, which allowed us to improve our delivery performance year after year and, we now want to share it with the world around us. As our CEO, Teresa Martins, usually says, “no one needs to be an expert in this field. They need the right tools for the job”. And NEA Platform is born.
NEA Platform represents these 15 years of experience with a low-code approach to computer vision, artificial intelligence, and robotics. It enables others without software development knowledge, with the capability to build and maintain state-of-the-art computer programs that can run in a factory, a robot, a house, or even a city.

NEA was architectured with professionals in mind, and all the challenges they face in their everyday tasks are built over three essential components:

> NEA Cloud: is where all the projects, component templates, users and payments live. It’s the place with an aggregated view of everything you ever made using NEA.
Nea Cloud is home to NEA Marketplace as well as where you can buy or sell other components.

> NEA IDE: It’s installed on every computer and allows your technicians to build those fantastic programs that will control other machines. It will enable you to work offline, but it needs to be connected to the cloud from time-to-time to get the latest components or templates to save your projects and send aggregated data for future analysis.

> NEA ENGINE: deployed (using NEA IDE) in the machine, It’s the system responsible for Interfacing with the machine and for executing the programs you create. It works entirely offline, and it only needs to be connected to the NEA IDE for a new deployment or a debug session; otherwise, it’s fully autonomous.

Within the NEA ecosystem, we developed several concepts of abstraction that will make your life a lot easier. However, four of them are the basis of everything else and deserve a special place in this text. Without them, NEA would never exist:

> Components: the essential elements of your program. They represent a camera, an AI algorithm, a robot, a variable, etc. They are the real responsible for all the grand abstractions NEA provides;

> Workflows: components are excellent, but they are even better as a team. Workflows allow you to aggregate parts with a computational flow in mind. They provide your program structure and let your machines know what to do:

> Templates: our primary goal is to increase abstractions and reduce what we call the time-to-line. Templates are exactly what the word means. They represent a program (a set of components grouped within one workflow) for a specific problem. So, if you have a problem to solve, before building everything from scratch, consult the available templates!

> SDK: we already have a great set of applications in NEA, but we know that together we go further and faster. We created SDK to enable anyone to build their components for NEA.

Image Processing and Artificial Intelligence Neadvance-Services (NS) constitutes a pool of algorithms and techniques optimized and enhanced following the needs and specificities of an application.

They are agnostic relative to the type of information (RGB; RGB-D) and the production process. Additionally, it can be deployed for operations in the cloud or desktop.
These NSs, are seen as blocks that have information as input and extracted knowledge as output, interconnected like lego parts, which together, between them and with the remaining NS, will allow solving technological challenges, for example, in the surface inspection domains and quality control.
NS assumes itself as a powerful tool in decision-making and triggering actions.

Some machine vision SW has been designed to automate production processes and operations. Machine vision algorithms run in a specific controller – NeaController, where all results and data can become available to external systems.

The algorithms can process images acquired from a 3rd party or, when necessary, the NeaController can collect data from a 2D and 3D technology to a maximum of 10 cameras.
The embedded machine vision SW is a combination of traditional machine vision techniques and new artificial intelligence approaches, becoming the perfect solution for applications such as surface inspection, aesthetic control, dimension control, and robot guidance.

Robot Guidance for Palletizing and Depalletizing

This machine vision SW is customized for robot guidance applications, explicitly guiding the robot’s gripper to perform palletizing and depalletizing operations.
The highly flexible modular system, easily integrated into different packaging lines, uses different types of technology to acquire the images, and Neadvance’s state-of-the-art algorithms ensure fast and cost-efficient automation of palletizing and depalletizing processes. The setup is done in a few minutes, with two easy calibration steps.

The system can: detect/locate boxes and interlayers; generate gripping coordinates (X, Y, Z) for boxes and interlayers; perform hierarchical gripping of boxes (double pick if possible); error-proofing; avoid a foreign object and detects unknown objects.
